Peter Freeman, Johnsons Apparelmaster’s transport manager for Leeds, was recently celebrated for his commitment to staying safe while driving in the company’s first Tachograph Analysis Service Compliance Awards. The awards are supported by the Freight Transport Association (FTA) and recognise outstanding contributions to improving driver safety standards through the Johnsons Apparelmaster Road Transport Compliance League.

Throughout 2017, for the first time, all of Johnsons Apparelmasters’ transport managers were measured against a range of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Among the measurements for success were tacograph compliance, meeting miles per gallon (MPG) targets, reducing and reporting accidents, and a transport audit score.

The results were monitored through a league table for transport managers across the country, and coming up trumps to win the award and the trophy for the Leeds plant was Peter Freeman, with the solid support of his supervisors Keith Wharton and Phil Keeling.

Karen Reid, key account contract manager for the FTA, who helped present the award to Peter commented: “Road safety and compliance is extremely important to the individuals who spend so much of their time on the road, the company they work for, and for society. As one of the largest trade associations representing the interest of the transport industry since 1889, we are delighted to back Johnsons Apparelmaster’s new award scheme.”

Coming second in the awards scheme was Phil Derry, transport manager for Uttoxeter and Andrew Aughpin, transport manager for Lancaster.

National transport manager for Johnsons Apparelmaster Ian Greatrex said: “We place the health and safety of our staff at the heart of everything we do. We constantly aim to drive standards upwards and are proud to demonstrate our focus on driver safety through these new compliance awards. Huge congratulations go to Peter, Phil and Andrew and their teams.”
