The vocational training is designed to deliver skills training in-company and to specifically reflect the working environment. Employees were able to select the modules that will mostly benefit them, based on their particular job role. These included carrying out the washing process, dry finishing and inspecting garments using a tunnel finisher, tumble drying items, and pressing and finishing items following the laundry.
Caroline Ripping, a supervisor at Johnsons Apparelmaster, said: “Doing the NVQ has helped me to find out more about other roles in the laundry, and in the future we can make changes as a result of the NVQ.”
The NVQs are accredited through PAAVQ-SET, in partnership with Skillfast-UK, the Sector Skills Council for fashion and textiles, Johnsons Apparelmaster was able to receive financial support for their trainees through the Government’s Train to Gain initiative.
David Palmer, said: “This has been a tremendous achievement for all involved. I want to thank Bridgwater College for the time and effort they put into the NVQ and very much look forward to working with the College in the future.”
