Last chance for climate change levy agreement

6 February 2007

The Treasury has advised that if the sector as a whole can demonstrate an energy intensity ratio of 10% or higher the sector would be allowed on to the second stage of negotiating the energy reduction target. As an exceptional circumstance, TSA has been allowed to apply this figure only to the laundering and finishing processes, rather than the whole spectrum of business activities.

It has been invited to make a formal application and is seeking data to prove its case from UK textile rental and laundry firms including members, hospital laundries and non member contacts. A survey form, which must be returned by 30 March latest, is currently going out and data will of course be treated as confidential.

To have a chance of success securing an agreement that would benefit the industrial laundry sector to the sum of around £3million/year, a minimum 80% response is vital.

Any UK laundry or textile rental firm that does not receive a letter shortly but feels that its data would be relevant, should contact the TSA, (email: tsa@tsa-uk.org).
