Local MSP visits Scotland’s market-leading laundry

27 February 2018

Willie Rennie, MSP for North East Fife, visited Fishers, Scotland’s market-leading commercial laundry and textile rental provider, on 23 February 2018. Rennie was given an extended tour of Fishers’ Prestonhall, Cupar, plant where he saw first-hand the busy facility which cleans over half a million pieces of laundry every week.

This was Rennie’s first visit to Fishers since it was acquired by K-Bro, Canada’s largest provider of laundry and linen services, for £35m.

Fishers’ managing director, Michael Jones gave Rennie an update on the acquisition which will see Fishers operate as a standalone, wholly owned subsidiary of K-Bro and retain its headquarters in Cupar, Fife. Jones also provided an update on Fishers’ trading and performance and its plans for the future.

Fishers employs up to 850 staff at peak season and during his tour with Prestonhall General Manager, David Emslie, Rennie was given a rare insight into the operations of one of Fishers’ largest facilities.

Fishers cleans, irons and delivers more than two million items a week for the hospitality and tourism industries. Fishers also provides workwear hire and cleanroom garment services to the hospitality, healthcare, manufacturing and pharmaceutical sectors throughout Scotland and the North East of England.

Jones said: “We are grateful that Willie took time out from his busy schedule to come and visit us here at Prestonhall.

“We think it is hugely important that our local representatives know what we do and Willie was able to meet with our team to see first-hand how our busy laundry and textile business operates.

“It is a really exciting time for Fishers and today’s visit was a great opportunity to update Mr Rennie on our plans for the future and give him an update on our acquisition by K-Bro.”

Rennie said: “As a significant employer in the local area I am really impressed by Fishers’ commitment to the local community and it was great to have the chance to catch up on their progress.

“It is truly exciting to see Fishers continue to play a key role within the hospitality and tourism industry throughout Scotland and the North East of England.

“I would like to thank Michael and the team for showing me round Prestonhall. It has given me a real insight to the business.”
