McBride pins hopes on new powder

19 February 2008

The company recently cut 20 jobs from its 250 staff at Barrow, the only McBride factory still producing washing powder, as a result of falling sales and increased raw material prices.

According to the company, UK sales of liquid laundry detergent are up 30% a year compared with powder sales, which are falling by around 8% a year. CEO Miles Roberts said: “We have made a significant investment in Barrow in efficiency and product development.”

McBride, with a £500 million turnover, has 15 plants throughout Europe. It provides a wide range of laundry powders and other cleaning products for the retail and trade markets.
