Mercedes sets the standard for Apparelmaster fleet

3 August 2003

Johnsons Apparelmaster moves closer to its goal of an all Mercedes fleet with an order for 31 Atego 815s from Bristol dealer Lancaster Truck and Van.

The company runs some 280 trucks from its 17 depots nationwide. Last year it decided to purchase all trucks centrally and standardise on the 7.5tonne Atego chassis. It bought 30, all fitted with 20ft box bodies by Wessex Services and Ross & Bonnyman column tail lifts.

Apparelmaster purchasing manager David Grey said the 7.5tonne Mercedes Atego represents an excellent package which is ideally suited to the business.

He explains that the vehicle is competitively priced, reliable and cost effective and popular with the drivers. It is also compact and manoeuvrable, an important feature both driving in narrow country lanes and city centres.

The company is now looking to standardise the fleet keeping up to date by replacing vehicles every five years on a rolling programme.
