National laundry group wins YHA’s UK contract

The Youth Hostel Association (YHA) has awarded its entire national laundry business to the National Laundry Partnership (NLP) – the group’s largest single contract since it was established at the end of last year.

NLP, which provides a network for independent laundries in the UK, will service an estimated three million bed nights a year from the YHA’s hostels in England and Wales.

Delighted

John Shonfield, chairman of NLP, said he was delighted to win the contract: “The NLP was set up last year to provide cost-effective service to customers on a national basis. By using independent laundries, the NLP can provide a more personalised service but with service quality guaranteed.” He continued: “The YHA contract will be serviced by almost 30 independent laundries and we are currently recruiting several additional new members in order to reduce the cost of distribution. Laundries of various sizes and specialised services have joined the NLP, which now extends to all parts of the British Isles.” The YHA has seen substantial growth and popularity in recent years. Many new style hostels have been established in major cities, like London, Manchester, Liverpool and Oxford. It provides comfortable accommodation at an affordable price for families, school groups, walkers and business people, including many overseas visitors.

Meetings

NLP says it is talking to several other national groups in various sectors. It meets bi-monthly in Manchester and, because of growing interest from the South, its meeting last month (September) was held at the Swan Laundry in Whitney. A speaker from Ducker covered the subject of “Investment and mechanisation in small to medium size laundries”.
