NPE phase-out by 2014, says TRSA

30 May 2012

The TRSA is working closely with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for an industry-wide phase-out of NPEs from all liquid detergent formulations by 31 December 2013 and all powders one year later.

The association met EPA officials on 17 May, following the agency’s earlier release of its analysis of NPE alternatives. TRSA president and CEO Joseph Ricci said that the meeting with EPA officials represented the continued co-operation between his association and regulators and he was pleased with the development of the relationship.

TRSA launched its Clean Green certification in February this year. The certificate is awarded to laundries that demonstrate a responsible attitude to sustainability by conserving water and energy, using NPE-free detergents and following practice in other areas including re-using, reclaiming and recycling resources.
