OCS goes for group-wide network

27 January 1999

OCS Group is implementing a nationwide data management system to improve customer care.

In future, the 40 companies in the group will have fast, direct access to centralised administration and its customer and financial databases, whilst customers still retain the personal contact of dealing with their local branch supplier. Some 200 branch offices are involved in 100 locations. At the same time, the new system will provide faster communication between individual companies.

The Wide Area Network contract, which is part of OCS Group’s IT strategy, has been placed with Racal Telecom for its Nsure suite of LAN interconnect services to provide a flexible, bi-directional communications network.

Depending on the size of site and communications load, Racal is providing leased lines or ISDN dial-on-demand. Larger, multi-branch OCS Group sites such as Clapham, Manchester, Glasgow and Harlow, where communications traffic is at a consistently high level, will utilise the leased lines, each with a dedicated bandwidth. Smaller sites, meanwhile, will have access to the dial-on-demand ISDN lines.
