Oeko-Tex launches Eco Passport certification

11 April 2016

GERMANY
The Oeko-Tex Association has launched its new Eco Passport certification for sustainable textile chemicals, following the successful completion of a six-month pilot phase with manufacturers.
The Eco Passport certification offers textile chemical suppliers the opportunity to have their products assessed for sustainability by an independent third-party body. It allows suppliers to reassure their customers that chemicals, colorants, and auxiliaries are in line with the industry's sustainability requirements and initiatives.
Textile chemicals are analysed in a two-step process that confirms that the compounds and each ingredient meet specific criteria for sustainability, safety, and regulatory compliance.
Chemical compounds are checked against a comprehensive Manufacturing Restricted Substance List (MRSL) that incorporates Oeko-Tex Standard 100 RSL and STeP Standard, both of which are compliant with REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation & restriction of Chemicals) and ZDHC guidelines. Then the chemicals are analysed to ensure that they do not contain any unsafe contaminants.
