Oeko-Tex looks to widen its scope

30 November 2011

The textile industry uses the Oeko-Tex standard to test for harmful substances and certify products at all stages of the processing chain.

Delegates also agreed to continue the policy of global company monitoring to ensure that all certificate-holders are successfully audited by 2013. They also agreed to extend the scale of regular control testing of certified products so that in future at least 20% of such products would be tested annually.

As the host country for the heads of institute meeting, India has issued 624 valid Oeko-Tex certificates. There are now 9,500 companies in 90 countries actively involved in Oeko-Tex certification and the 15 Oeko-Tex member institutes have processed on average over 10,000 certificates each year.
