Payment on the move

4 July 2002

The Mobitill is a voice-enabled system for electronic fund transfer at point of sale (EFTPoS).

The device, produced by communications specialist Vanguard, allows laundry, ironing services or drycleaners to collect payment while on the road - at exhibitions or customers' houses.

The secure payment device has a built-in mobile phone and can take authorised card payments, referring transactions for approval where necessary. The four function keys link with on-screen labels and the scroll key can be used to access on screen menus.

The system can handle up to 100 transactions before recharging. It has a built-in thermal printer which produces 45 receipts per print roll. Using multi-SIM technology, the Mobitil's handset can be used separately or in addition to another mobile phone, so personal and Mobitill phones can use a single contact number.

The system will support the Ericsson SH888 mobile phone for card acceptance and the Ericsson T39 and T65 mobile phones for data management, but the Mobitill can also be adapted to a range of mobile phones or radio models.
