Paul Wheelhouse MSP, the Scottish Government’s Minister for Business, Innovation and Energy, visited leading cleaning and detergent manufacturer RP Adam (Arpal Group) on Tuesday 20 June to support the company’s commitment to rural investment across all its operations.
The minister was shown round RP Adam’s Selkirk-based manufacturing HQ by managing director Robin Leith, highlighting the £1 million capital investment programme that the company has delivered there during the last three years.
This included a £400,000 expansion project to increase manufacturing capacity by 40% in line with increased business growth, and the recent addition of a £125,000 filling-line technology, which could see annual output exceeding 10 million litres of liquid product over the next four years.
RP Adam also used the Minister’s visit to highlight the investment that it has made in its employees and to the local and national communities that it serves. This includes accreditation as a Scottish Living Wage employer, its commitment to The Scottish Business Pledge and its recent involvement in the ground-breaking Meals and More scheme pioneered by the UK’s leading food wholesaler Brakes Group.

A fourth-generation family-owned company, RP Adam last year celebrated its 125th anniversary and now employs over 80 people across the UK. Expansion at the Selkirk plant is a major part of the company’s 20/20 five year investment and growth programme, which sets out a £20 million turnover target to be reached by 2020.
