SEPA offers training on PPC permit compliance

30 January 2012

SEPA is concerned that compliance within the drycleaning sector is too low but before taking “a more hard-line approach”, the authority hopes to educate operators to help them in meeting the requirements of their permits.

As a condition of the, legally required permit, cleaners must keep records of operations such as the amount of solvent used and the solvent waste disposed of. They must use these amounts to calculate their annual solvent emissions and make an annual submission to SEPA.

However, SEPA says some operators failed to make a submission and of those it did receive, several were incorrect. Such non-compliance is a breach of the Pollution Prevention and Control (Scotland) Regulations 2000. The courses are designed to improve both the quality and number of submissions.

The courses run from run from 09:15 to 11:30am. Dates and venues are:

Monday 20 February, Society M, 60 Renfrew Street, Glasgow; Tuesday 21 February, Dewar Centre, Glover Street, Perth; Wednesday 22 February 2012, Aberdeen Thistle Airport Hotel, Argyll Road, Aberdeen; Thursday 23 February 2012, Mercure Hotel, 33 Church Street, Inverness; Monday 5 March 2012, Edinburgh Hilton Airport Hotel and Wednesday 7 March 2012, Gracefield Arts Centre 28 Edinburgh Road, Dumfries.

Registration forms are available from SEPA, sed@sepa.org.uk and must be returned by 10 February.
