The Behind the Seams Awards honour those whose skills normally go unrecognised, but who make a vital contribution to the economic strength of the UK industry.

The pair received their award in London on 11 November, and their names will also appear on a skills roll of honour, which is to be presented to Skills Minister Lord Young.

Ray Lambert of Jeeves of Belgravia, who nominated Garry Charnock described him “as a great ambassador for the business".

Duncan Myttion, general manager of Sunlight Textiles, said: "Jeanette Swift is responsible for the enormous task of making sure that laundry is collected, produced and delivered on time. Her determination to do the best job she can has made a material difference to the success of the company."

Linda Florance of Skillfast-UK said: "As well as showcasing today's top talents, we have put it to MPs that more must be done to train the next generation of skills heroes. We need to make sure that skilled workers do not die out."
