Anne Parris, president of the London Guild of Cleaners and Launderers recently presented eight cleaners with their Q Star certificates. Among them was Richard Hicks who scooped all five Q Stars. Richard’s technical education began at Nottingham and Leicester technical colleges in the 50s and 60s and continued with courses run by the Institute of Management.

Newer entrants to the industry were also evident and included Faisal Naqvi, owner of a south London drycleaners, who gained his first Q Star. “If you are going to do a job you might just as well do it professionally” said Faisal.

Guild president Anne Parris also presented Nicholas Bond with the “Outstanding student of the year award.” Nicholas gained top marks for the course.

Prior to the awards, Mike Palin, Technical Director of the TSA explained why it is taking so long to get international agreements on care labelling. He was optimistic that the problems will be resolved soon.
