Sunlight aims to cut consumption with Teardrop Trailer

22 October 2009

Sunlight group logistics manager Jonathan Phippen said that the group employs strict environmental policies and customers expect these policies to be visible. The trailer design, with its claimed 10% fuel savings, is the perfect way to reinforce the group's green credentials.

Phippen added that Sunlight has reduced the maximum speed of all vehicles from 56mph to 52mph, which, he estimates, will reduce fuel consumption by 5%.

After conducting a study of the rolling cages used to load product onto trucks, the company is also specifying all new trucks with bodies reduced by six inches in height with no loss of load capacity, to further reduce fuel consumption and emissions.

According to a report at RoadTransport.com, the 13.5metre Don-Bur Teardrop Trailer is supplied as part of its 200 vehicle contract hire agreement with Ryder.
