TSA calls for minimum wage rises to slow down

1 March 2005

The Textile Services Association is now calling for a slow-down and urging the Low Pay Commission to have a "pause" year. "We've seen rises of 7% each year, in both 2003 and 2004 and with the 2006 increase, the rate will have risen by nearly 50% since its introduction," chief executive Murray Simpson told LCN.

Though the association has backed the principle of the minimum wage as a safety net, Simpson says that rises in excess of inflation are not sustainable and that the association will continue to press the commission on this point.
