TSA issues advice on bird flu outbreak

6 February 2007

Comprehensive notes are available to members on the website www.tsa-uk.org and to others who contact the association by phone or email, 020 8863 7755/tsa.@tsa-uk.org

The notes aim to clarify the relevant terms and put concerns into perspective.

They cover the background to avian influenza, explain the definition of pandemic flu, and explain deactivation of flu viruses.

They answer questions such as, “which sectors of the textile rental and laundry sectors could be affected?” and “what happens when infected birds are identified?”

The controls are also detailed, as are the likely effects of such controls on customers in disease control areas and those outside control areas, and the likely economic consequences.

Further sources of help are also given.
