Turning old linen into wipers

20 May 2010

Director Robert Smith says that the company has always recycled discarded clothing and has now progressed to recycling linen that has passed its use-by date. He has found that a lot of laundries were throwing such linen away but believes that by converting it into wipers his company can help both the laundry industry and the environment.

Originally called the Midland Waste Manufacturing Company, the business dates back to 1900 and was bought by the Smith family in 1923. It was originally concerned with cleaning waste but gradually switched to manufacturing industrial cloths and in 1975 changed its name to reflect this. It now manufactures and sells cleaning cloths to a varied range of industries and has expanded its product range by becoming a distributor for non-wovens.
