Wash powder disinfects too

5 December 2001

Springdawn Professional is launching what it says is the UK's first ever disinfecting biological laundry powder. This pioneering product is formulated to kill a wide range of bacteria, including MRSA, ecoli and staphylococcus, at 40°C - "something never achieved before".

The powder cleans and disinfects white and coloured fabric - including cotton, mixed fibres and synthetics - in hard and soft water. The company said it is effective against gram positive, gram negative and variable bacteria, eliminating unpleasant odours and the bacteria that cause boils and sores, often linked with the linen from hospitals and nursing homes.

According to Springdawn, research indicates that on-premise laundries at nursing homes, hospitals and hotels require a biological laundry powder that combines chemical disinfection with high wash performance. This is because of the inaccuracy associated with thermal disinfection. The disinfecting laundry powder has been developed as a solution to this problem.

To claim disinfection the product needed to pass tests carried out by the British Textile Technology Group (BTTG). The report, which appears on www.springdawn. co.uk, details the methods used.

In laboratory wash tests to determine cleaning efficacy, Springdawn said its powder outperformed many leading brands within the industrial and household market.
