Workwear looks to the future

1 November 1999

Classic colours will hold sway for the next four seasons with white and black to the fore, but grey has been around just too long and will only move forward in metallic guise.

These were just some of the predictions made in the show’s first Trends Zone.

A joint venture between corporate wear specialist De Baers and trend consultants Caspar Clarke Associates, the zone guided visitors to the influences on workwear and corporatewear design over the next two years.

Workwear, predict the style gurus, will be based on simple lines, but with urban details - mobile phone pockets, padded sections, zips and seaming details. Fastenings are important using velcro and even magnetic strips.

Practicality extends to fabrics where the treatment counts – coated and double sided materials will be in.
