The Textile Services Association (TSA) National Congress at the Marriott Forest of Arden Hotel and Country Club in the West Midlands (10 November), saw the TSA bring together the senior decision makers from within the industry. The event was targeted at the owners, CEOs and senior directors of the association’s membership. TSA National Congress, a smaller, more condensed event than September’s TSA Autumn Conference with high quality papers on industry themes, brought in onetime Conservative MP and now celebrity train traveller, Michael Portillo as keynote speaker.

In June, LCN caught up with Sandy and Angie Alexander who are selling their successful three-site business, Staypress, after 32 years trading. The business has grown over time from an at-home ironing service started by Angie, to three outlets in the Lothians Musselburgh, Haddington and Dalkeith – offering laundry, ironing and drycleaning services to local households. Although the business has stood up well to the ravages of the pandemic, and back in June was beginning to see an uplift in demand, the couple recently took stock and decided it was time to ‘seize the day’ and move on to a new life in Spain.

Latest TRSA survey shows some signs of optimism for 2022

Robert W Baird & Co and TRSA, the North America textile services trade association, recently released the results of its December 2021 (Fourth-Quarter 2021) Uniform & Linen Rental Survey. The results showed several encouraging signs of optimism heading into 2022 based on data collected from the uniform and linen rental companies that participated in the survey.

Antistatic fabrics are a must for personnel in involved in manufacturing, working with or servicing electric vehicles, warned Carrington Textiles’ quality assurance manager, Sean Moore. He explained to LCN that ‘grounded’ fabrics for uniforms in this niche sector are necessary to avoid unpleasant ‘snap, crackle and pop’ for workers as they go about their business of making the world a more sustainable place.

A survey has found laundry is the top chore for most US citizens and there are signs they want their time back to indulge themselves in activities they would rather pursue. Even watching a boring movie is preferable it seems.
