Over 100 individuals are currently taking the 16-week course, with others lined up to start.
The college is working with around ten different laundries in the region to provide qualifications to their staff. Funding is available through the government’s Train-to-Gain scheme, so in most cases employers will not have any extra charges.
Seven staff from County Textile Services in Oxfordshire have completed their Laundry Operations NVQ, says Christine Robinson, human resources director at CTS.
“CTS is committed to continually improving the excellent quality of services to our customers. Continuing staff development is a very important part of achieving this. We believe the Laundry Operations NVQ courses are a good way of making training and development accessible to all levels of staff.”
East Berkshire College is the region’s only training provider with access to training materials developed by the Laundry Technology Centre with major laundry employers. Training takes place in workshops led by trainer-assessor who work at the customer’s site for one day a week during a three to four month period.
The course can also be tailored to meet each company’s needs.
