A new product, Shield Plus, promises to slash the costs in hotels and healthcare settings that are constantly laundering window curtains, shower curtains, and other room furnishing items to ensure optimum sanitisation.

According to supplier Panaz, Shield Plus is a unique disinfectant cleaning system that kills 99.99-99.999% of all enveloped viral, bacterial and fungal microbes including Coronavirus, MRSA, Norovirus, Vaccinia and E.Coli.

It is available in a laundry format and is a non-toxic to humans, water based product that lasts for a minimum 30 days after treatment. Simply add to laundry rinse cycle or spray and wipe onto any hard or soft surface (including phones, keyboards, computer mouse et al). It requires no change to a standard cleaning regime and can also be used in chemical foggers/electrostatic sprayers.

While the product can be used anywhere, it is primarily aimed at the commercial sector, as Panaz is a commercial contract supplier anyway. Shield Plus would work as an additive to any laundry rinse cycle with no change to standard cleaning regimes.

Panaz told LCNi, as an example, a leading hotel chain owner is now planning to roll it out across its whole estate within its laundry cleaning sector. “The hotel company is currently having to wash shower curtains and mattress protectors after every guest. In a busy hotel, this means that each item might be washed up to 30 times more than normal. However, using Shield Plus in †he laundry process will allow them to get back to business as usual,” said Dagon Fitzwiliam, Panaz business development manager London South. The cost per wash is around 59p.
