Following several weeks in hospital John Gallagher passed away on 20 February. He had been President of the Society of Hospital Linen Services & Laundry Managers (SHLSLM) since 2009. He will be sadly missed by all those who knew him, said an announcement from the Society.

A statement from SHLSLM said: “It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that the Society must announce the passing of our president, John Gallagher. We will all miss him more than words can express. John was not just our President and co-worker, he was our good friend. As those who knew John were well aware, over the past few years John had been struggling with varying health problems that gradually got worse.

“John was highly respected by all who knew him and has been an integral part of our industry and the Society for many years, and he will be missed by all of us. Our hearts go out to John’s wife Susan and the rest of the family at this sad and difficult time. Please keep them in your thoughts.”

“A committed champion of the Society, the NHS and best practice in laundry, John was always welcoming and inclusive. I have very warm memories of him at SHLSLM where his kindness on my first meeting with members of the Society will never be forgotten. Very much a people person, he made a great impression on me and I will remember him fondly and with admiration,” said Kathy Bowry, editor of LCN. "The LCN team sends heartfelt condolences to John's widow Susan and his family and friends."

The funeral will take place on Thursday 24 March at St Cadoc's Church, Caerleon, followed by a family-only cremation ceremony at Gwent Crematorium, Croesyceiliog.
